vigilantia, vĭgĭlantĭa, ae, f. vigilans, from vigilo, wakefulness (class.). Lit.: erat (Plinii) incredibile studium, summa vigilantia, Plin. Ep. 3, 5, 8.—Jocosely: fuit (Caninius) mirificā vigilantiā, qui suo toto consulatu somnum non viderit, Cic. Fam. 7, 30, 1.—More freq., Trop., watchful attention, watchfulness, vigilance (syn.: sedulitas, diligentia): Siciliam virtute istius et vigilantiā singulari ... tutam esse servatam, Cic.
